Why We Love Lake Street

Missy Wyant Smit|November 5, 2019

San Francisco has so many great neighborhoods. The city has always been a welcoming place for newcomers and each wave has contributed to the endless variety and beauty across this 7x7 mile stretch. However, for both family life and enjoying some of the best of what San Francisco has to offer, Lake Street ranks up there.

Lake Street stands out primarily because of its location. Proximity to the city’s greatest parks — Presidio, Land’s End, Golden Gate Park and others — as well as downtown means inviting places for kids to play and easy commutes for parents. The people who live on or around Lake Street seem stoked about their location and sense of community. Some statistics about the neighborhood’s real estate market:

  • # of single family homes: 753

  • # of condominiums: 503

  • # of multi-unit buildings: 684

  • # of properties sold in 2018: 73

  • Highest price per square foot sale in 2018: $1,418.27/sq. ft.

  • Highest priced sale in 2018: $7,200,000

  • Number of properties we have sold in the neighborhood: 23

    • #1 team in the neighborhood by sales volume in 2018 (SFAR)

Perhaps my favorite fact about the Lake Street is based on a widely-held misconception. Many people joke that Lake Street is a misnomer (as there’s no lake in sight), not realizing that Mountain Lake is tucked into the southern edge of the Presidio. Anyway, I’d love to know more about your experience living in the neighborhood, so please be in touch.
